SRA JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
Reporting to: Sussex SRA Committee
Job purpose
To promote the development of junior squash across Sussex in cooperation with England Squash, Sussex SRA, affiliated and non-affiliated clubs and the Sussex County Sports Partnerships. To help ensure there are sustainable junior schemes in place with the long-term aspirations of ensuring squash as a whole continues to be played into the future.
Objectives
To map the state of junior squash in Sussex by contacting all affiliated and non-affiliated clubs.
To work in close partnership with the England Squash (ES) area squash manager and administrator to develop junior squash in the county
To promote in partnership with ES, the role of the Community Coach (John Millard) in undertaking taster sessions in primary schools, as part of a programme for feeding into clubs
To identify where effort would best be directed -to help further development where activities are already under way, and to pump prime junior sections and coaching where nothing exists at present
To identify where further coaching resource could help, and thus whether Sussex SRA should put resource into recruiting more coaches, and/or re-energising currently inactive coaches
To encourage more junior teams into the Sussex junior league and establish more local tournaments
To work towards a more consistent approach across Sussex e.g. school sessions, club activities
To consider the effectiveness of communications with clubs - identifying contacts, e-mail, websites, promoting awareness of county junior events.
To link with the county coaches to ensure improving players are fed into relevant squads to further their development.
Performance measures
Contact all affiliated clubs for basic info (end July 06) and
Provide a summary and recommended actions (mid September 06)
To identify key priorities for action and measure the success of the girls road shows in June/July and also the junior clinics in October/November (mid September 06) [SET SOME TARGETS?]
To get more teams (how many?) into the Sussex junior league for 06/07 (target u-11s through mini squash programme) and also mini squash tournaments January 2007
To increase the number of junior players (how many?)coming forward for county selection, so that the county coaches/managers can ensure the boys county teams are represented at as many age groups as possible (October 2006) and re-establish a junior Girls County team for at least three age groups (October 2007)
To try and have active junior clubs across the core areas of the county. (Approx 8) April 2007
